jewels carved in wax and cast into sterling silver or gold…

Individual carved pieces are waxed together on a tree, an investment mold is poured around the tree and then placed in an oven to burn out the wax and hold at a temperature of 1300 degrees fahrenheit until it is removed and molten silver is poured in… after the mold and fresh metal has cooled a bit, it is slowly submerged in water. The mold breaks apart and metal exposed. Clip, sand, clean up the castings, solder, buff, set the stones, polish and clean and polish and, deliver to new homes!

sweet sterling silver

Sterling Silver jewelry hand-made in Lost Wax Design by Crystal Hartman… Using an old technique, I draw with wax to build up dots, lines and design. Then, pouring an investment mold around the carvings, we burn out the wax and pour liquid silver at 1800 degrees fahrenheit into the mold. Cooling and breaking away the investment, the jewels are ready to be cleaned… sanded, dremeled, tumbled, and buffed. Stones are set and the jewels are polished -some with a high shine and others, with a soft brushed finish.
